    1894 Baby Carbine

    1894 baby carbine

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all. I need some information on an 1894 that I recently purchased. It is a baby carbine with half a magazine, and is identical to the one shown in the advertisement on page 211 of Col. Brophy's book. I am confused because the book seems to say that the earliest serial number on this type of rifle is around 107,000 for the .38, which I assume to be the 38-40 which this rifle is. My problem is that the serial number on this rifle is 5xx and is the same in two places on the rifle and inside of the stock also. Is it possible that this could have been a special order rifle, or am I just really confused and mistaken about the 107 thousand serial number. Any help or information about this would be appreciated. Thanks much, Hank.

Marlin after WWI changed their serial numbering. Your gun was probably made in the early 1920s. If you could post it in the collector's forum, some over there might could get you a closer answer.

By "index page", he means the root of the forum board listing.
("Marlin Owners" in "Marlin Owners > Marlin Rifles ,Shotguns & Other Marlin's > 1894 > 1894 Baby Carbine")
Click there and scroll down to "Marlin Collectors." (~20th in the list of ~90 boards here).

    Or just click here:
