Re: the lever open under fire

Andre, I'm getting that the lever opens a bit on firing and then is hard to open the rest of the way. It's hard to diagnose these things without seeing them, but it sounds like the gun might benefit from a thorough cleaning from top to bottom. Did you buy it used? Have you ever taken it completely apart? If not, look in the reference sections for instructions on how to do a Detail Strip. This involves taking the lever off, removing the bolt, and the ejector, plus the carrier, the trigger plate, the bolt lock, the hammer, and the buttstock. Once you have all the parts removed from the receiver, the inside of the receiver needs to be cleaned thoroughly, along with all the parts. I would recommend labeling all the screws so you get them back into their proper holes, some can be accidently switched on reassembly. If you have questions, we are here to help. And once you've got it back together, if the problem still exists, we should be better able to help diagnose it.

The Marlin action is a relatively simple design, and once you tear it down and learn how the parts interact, you should do fine.

Like I said, if you have questions, feel free to ask! We all have to learn from Step One at some point!

Papa covered it, but I'm worried about the "action after is a bit hard to open" part, and they "size easily" part.. meaning this might be reloads.
    Too high a pressure?

DH, I thought about that, but if the cases resize easily, it sounds more like a gun problem than a load problem. I think the bolt locking grooves might be goopy, or there is some grit in there that's not letting the bolt locking function work properly. I could be wrong. But I don't think the ammo is the problem. After a good teardown and cleaning, we'd know more. It could be the detent on the lever not locking properly.

Are you full length sizing or neck sizing? Did you start with new brass? AFAIK, lever gun ammo should always be full length sized (make sure the die is in far enough).

Look at the fired brass. Is it indented or rough to the touch? A dirty chamber will cause hard extraction.

Re: the lever open under fire

    thanks fellows
the gun is clean ihave bought it used ,but fire less than 300
i have clean and smooth all the parts follow the instructions of marauder 's
the only part change is a one piece firing pin of long horn and a skinner sight
for me also it'seem a gun problem more than a ammo
the cartridges were cast bullet rcbs 240 sil or lyman 429215 ,i use with the same level in my 629
when i fire with the hand squeezing highly the lever ,no problem.
i control often that the srews are tightened.

this saturday i shall disassamble the gun for inspection.
    have a nice day

Re: the lever open under fire

In your last post you say that you can hold the lever closed with your fingers.
That would indicate to me that the lever is being opened by recoil.
Check your 1894 owner's manual or download it from:
    http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Custom...rt/manuals.asp
Look on the last page for the parts list.
Check to see if these parts are missing or worn. They are needed to keep the lever closed.
    #16 finger lever plunger
    #17 finger lever plunger pin
    #18 finger lever plunger spring
#71 trigger guard plate latch pin
The hard to open problem may be caused by something bouncing around in the partially opened action.
Normally, after you fire a shot the internal parts have time to settle down before the action is opened.
